You know, after reading this again, I find it utterly amazing that the JW's at that time would think that this new leader of millions of Catholics around the world would have no other problems or issues to face, but only had an agenda to crush the JW's.
Now that I'm out, I can see how small the JW's really are and how they are held in such little regard by everyone else. But, while in the witnesses, they lead their followers to believe that the whole world is watching them and the world is out to get them. Sheesh!!!

what's the deal in the 'new system'?
by Pleasuredome inof course i wouldnt want to encourage speculation, but when i was involved in the jws there was sometimes talk of what would or wouldn't be in/acceptable in 'the new system'.
i heard some happifying comments like there wont be any electric guitars or transport, and we wont be wearing clothes but we'll still have seasons

Yeah, I've heard as well that we won't be eating any meat in the new system. We also won't have sewing machines, looms, electricity, ....
No phone, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primative as can be.
But, Jehovah will provide for our every need. -

Wow! That's a new one. I was still a JW in 1978 and I didn't hear that one.
But, it doesn't surprise me in the least. -

Ugh!! What a list of horrible words.
I've always hated the term "Evil Slave Class" that they gave to individuals who go against the teachings of the society.
I also dread Field Service, both the term and the act of going...
and Meetings. both the term and the act of going.
Pioneer, both the term and the people who did it.
Council. Which means some impotent elder telling you off about something he wishes he could do. -

My current favorite show is NCIS. Did anybody see the Medal of Honor Episode? I've always liked NCIS, but that episode has got to be one of the greatest episodes of all time.
Law and Order SVU. One word. Mariska. But seriously, the entire cast is just wonderful in their roles. Just as side note, I rented the movie Harold and Kumar go to White Castle this weekend. Guess who the guy who plays the character Freakshow is? Yup, Chris Melloni who plays Stabler. It was great to see him play in a comedic role.
Law and Order. Still good, but I miss Lenny.
Everybody Loves Raymond. The Mother and the Father are the BEST!!!
The Simpsons. My wife actually painted a picture of Homer al la Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe. It's hanging in my office. Homer is my Hero.
Some old ones are Lost in Space. That's my favorites of favorites. Oh the pain...the pain.
Looney Tunes Cartoons. The theme song is like candy whenever I hear it. (And now, I can sing along now that I know the words to that song...How pleasant to see brothers, all dwell in unity)
Star Trek TOS and TNG. And yeah, I like Enterprise as well.
Hogan's Heroes. Who here doesn't like Hogan's Heroes? How can you not like the Lovable Shultz, and Kommadant Klink. -

I feel so left out, I haven't had a JW knock on my door for about 14 years now. I just don't see them out in service. I've had one Mormon come to my door about 2 years ago and really that's about all.

The brainwashing around the "Schiavo" case...
by Brummie inup until this evening i had thought teresa schiavo was in an unconcious state, lying on a bed with just a machine keeping her alive.
how wrong was i?
i saw her smiling and showing awareness of her surroundings.

Our culture is supposed to be so advanced. But we are letting this poor woman die of thirst and hunger? This is humane? We treat our animals better than this. This is just cruel.
I'm sorry, but the husband is nothing but a big prick. If he really loved/loves his wife, and is respecting her wishes, wouldn't he want her to go in some other way than starving her to death? I don't care if they say she can't feel any pain or whatever, at least let her go out with some sort of dignity, whether she aware or not. She deserves that at least.
I can't help but feel that he must be in some way responsible for the condition she's in.
